Nasya Therapy in Indore

Classical nasal administration of medicated oils and powders to cleanse and nourish the head, sinuses and cervical region.

What Is Nasya?

Nasya is the fourth of the classical Panchakarma karmas — the administration of medicated preparations, most commonly oils, through the nostrils. The nose is considered the gateway to the head (nasa hi shiraso dwaram), and Nasya directly reaches the structures above the shoulders: sinuses, ears, throat, brain and cervical spine.

The Classical Rationale

Disorders of the head region — sinuses, migraines, cervical stiffness, hair fall, insomnia and cognitive dullness — are often reached only partially by oral medicines. Delivering medicated oils through the nasal route places the therapy directly at the affected sites.

Classical Indications

Nasya is classically associated with:

  • Chronic sinusitis, allergic rhinitis and nasal polyps.
  • Migraine and Vata-type headache.
  • Cervical spondylosis and neck stiffness.
  • Hair fall, premature greying and scalp disorders.
  • Insomnia, anxiety and cognitive fatigue.
  • Hormonal imbalances originating in the head region.

How Nasya Is Traditionally Performed

  1. Gentle facial and neck massage with warm oil.
  2. Localised steam over the face and forehead.
  3. Prescribed drops of medicated oil (commonly Anu Taila) are instilled into each nostril while the person lies with the head slightly extended.
  4. Brief rest, followed by gargling and light warm liquids.

Nasya is usually given as a course of 7 to 14 days.

Precautions

Nasya is not performed during acute cold and fever, immediately after meals, in advanced pregnancy or in significant nasal obstruction. Suitability is determined at consultation.
